September and October are my favorite two months of the year! As the temperatures cool, I have a renewed vigor to work. The farm always looks beautiful this time of year as the sugar maple trees turn bright red and orange. They’re dazzling!

This time of year, the farm is bustling! We open the pumpkin patch to families to pick pumpkins and the tractor transforms into a hayride. It is hard to believe this was the 23rd year of “pick your own pumpkin” at Glenna Farms. One of our goals from the beginning was to open our farm to the public for a first-hand look at a working farm and the agricultural industry. Understanding where food comes from often gives people a greater appreciation for the products they enjoy and the farmers that work hard to produce them. The fresh air and sense of freedom the country provides is an added bonus – and one we love to share

This time of year, we’re also preparing for the the next maple syrup season. Even though it’s only fall, we’re already thinking ahead to spring. When the leaves fall, we will begin cleaning our woods, removing any trees or limbs that may have fallen. We use a tubing system to collect sap and repairing damaged tubing lines always follows tree clean up. When trees fall, they always seem to fall on our tubing lines. After we complete the clean up and repairs (projects we much prefer to get done before snow falls), we won’t be back in the woods until spring.

Fall also signals the beginning of holiday season at Glenna Farms! Business orders (and orders from forward thinking individuals) are often placed in September and October. We use this time to evaluate our inventory and ensure it is ready for holiday gift giving season. It is a busy season here on the farm, but it is still my favorite! I give my sincerest thanks to all who have visited the farm this fall season. Your support of our family farm is appreciated.

And, as always, Go Pack! The return of Packers games is another reason fall is my favorite.
